Backgroundguidelines

  • Clinical practice guidelines are systematically developed statements to assist practitioner and patient decisions about appropriate health care for specific clinical circumstances. They:
    • Define the role of specific diagnostic and treatment modalities in the diagnosis and management of patients
    • Contain recommendations that are based on evidence from a rigorous systematic review and synthesis of the published medical literature
  • AHS will provide this service to assist all health care professionals in their treatment of patients with migraine and related disorders

AHS Guidelines Development

  • Developing database for international guidelines development and use
  • Standardized processes and procedures will follow AAN Guidelines Development Manual
  • U.S. will take the lead, working with IHS, EFNS, EHF, WFN, JHS and GHS.
  • Statistician and methodologist will review all guideline initiatives
  • First guideline will be Acute Treatment of Migraine
  • AHS worked with AAN on the Preventive Guidelines recently launched
  • Policies for developing AHS Guidelines and Position Papers
