Goals & Objectives
- The review and ongoing evaluation of hospital admission criteria for the headache patient.
- The exchange, comparison and evaluation of inpatient drug treatment protocols.
- The exchange, comparison and evaluation of inpatient detoxification protocols.
- The exchange, comparison and evaluation of nonpharmacological treatment interventions, including psychological services, biofeedback, occupational therapy, physical therapy and rehabilitation.
- The exchange, comparison and evaluation of anesthesiologic and surgical treatments for refractory head and face pain.
- The review of existing tools or the development of new tools for the measurement of inpatient headache treatment outcomes.
- The development of protocols and collection of data regarding inpatient headache treatment outcomes through widely accepted scientifically based research methods.
- The development of ways to address the concerns of the medical insurance industry regarding the inpatient management of the headache patient (i.e., mutually agreeable guidelines for admission and treatment, collection and distribution of outcomes research data and educational programs for the insurance industry addressing the many complexities of chronic pain and its management).
- The development of a collaborative working relationship with the newly established Headache Guideline Project Consortium to provide a forum for an ongoing review of hospital admission criteria and other guidelines, which will be recommended through the work of the Consortium.
