There is presently no formal structure for training in patient education or certification mechanism within the AHS nor is there incentive for patient education in clinical practice because education is not currently reimbursable. Further justification is that there is no formal monitoring of patient education or outcomes evaluation.

 

1. To develop a curriculum to train providers in the skills necessary to educate patients in the management of headaches.
2. To advocate with government and insurers to provide reimbursement for headache patient education.
3. To increase visibility for headache in the community such that there is increased public awareness of proper management, resources available, and impact of headache on the community.
