- To provide a forum for the discussion of behavioral issues relevant to headache.
- To develop educational endeavors, which will inform health care professionals of the importance of the behavioral aspects of headache genesis and care.
- To develop and recommend proposals for symposia, workshops and other educational tools for the three AHS meetings per year.
- To explore the use of electronic media, printed material and innovative teaching techniques as part of educational endeavors.
- To provide an opportunity for discussion of patient-related issues and developing behavioral research.
- To encourage recruitment of new members to AHS who may have a specific interest in behavioral issues.
- To increase understanding of the role of psychological, social, emotional, behavioral and psychobiological factors in headache.
- To further knowledge of behavioral treatments and the integration of behavioral and medical treatment for the headache patient.
- To explore joint authorship of review or position papers on behaviorally relevant aspects of headache.
- To encourage more behaviorally oriented research related to headache.
- To increase awareness in the public at large, headache sufferers, health care professionals, third party payers and employers of the existence and effectiveness of behavioral therapies for headache.
- Assist AHS to develop guidelines for clinical trials investigating behavioral management of as well as guidelines for integrated drug and non-drug clinical trials.
