Evidence-based medicine exists which demonstrates a clear connection between experiencing abuse and headache and other co-morbid features.
This Special Interest Section serves to raise the awareness of the issues and treatment implications related to experiencing abuse and maltreatment, and serve as a forum for education and research.
Goals & Objectives
- Provide a forum for the discussion and exchange of information on Abuse and consequences in a headache population.
- Advocate on behalf of headache patients who have suffered abuse: by providing resources which will serve to enhance appropriate care.
- Encourage studies which assess the relationship of abuse to headache, using widely accepted scientifically-based research methods.
- Assist the Board of AHS in expanding education lectures and programs on the topic of Abuse.
- Promote an increased awareness of Abuse and its connection to headache and educating healthcare professionals on how to address abuse in clinical settings.
